We know you are excited about getting a dog, but before you do there are a lot of things to consider. At Royal City Animal Hospital, we believe knowledge is power. An informed pet owner is a great pet owner!

We will be posting selected breed profiles from time-to-time in order to share what you need to know about that particular breed before you (or your friends) purchase the dog. We want you to be aware of temperament, exercise requirements, breed predisposition to diseases or medical problems, grooming requirements, and much more.

As of June 11th, 2012 Jenny will be increasing her time here to 3 days a week. We hope this will enable you to get your dog (or cat) in sooner and allow for more availability for those 'emergency' grooms.

Meet Jenny - our new dog groomer

Please check out the BEFORE and AFTER pics of my Toy Poodle, Honey!  She had her ‘spa day’ with Jenny today.  Doesn't she look absolutely beautiful! I am fairly fussy when it comes to my poodle and like her to be perfectly coiffed.  Honey is a bit nervous when here, but Jenny made her feel comfortable enough to give her kisses when she was done.

We would like to remind everyone that we highly recommend that all pets visiting our grooming centre be up to date on their annual vaccinations prior to coming in for grooming. Kennel Cough in particular is easily transmitted between dogs and the best protection is a vaccination that has been given within that past 12 months. We will be happy to call your veterinary hospital for you if you are not sure of the date of the last vaccination.

Introducing.........Jenny Treutlein

Royal City Grooming Centre’s newest groomer

Jenny started grooming about 7 years ago, after a career in geology and being a perpetual student failed to provide her with the satisfaction she sought. Her love of animals is something that has been with her since early childhood and one day she realized the calling was too strong.

So, giving up on her PhD she decided to pursue her real passion of working with animals. She took a job as a kennel technician/veterinary assistant with a veterinary clinic in town and she knew she made the right choice. While she worked she would watch the groomer perform her magic on many of the dogs and she discovered she had a new interest. She started as an assistant for the groomer doing bathing, brushing, rough cuts and more. While working there, she took a professional groomer course with Super Pet. After 2 years of hard work and dedication she passed her grooming exams with flying colours and was offered her first professional grooming job with the same groomer she had been an assistant to.

She has been a full time dog groomer for over 7 years now and has loved every minute of it.

She brings with her a love of her job, enthusiasm for what she does and a passion for animal welfare. She couldn’t be more excited to be joining Pam and working for a grooming centre with a superb reputation for quality of work, top-notch patient care and customer satisfaction

Is your dog or cat on Flea Prevention?

If your dog is coming into the grooming centre or for a stay in the boarding facility, for the concern of our other guests it is required that your pet be on an approved flea prevention medication.

Revolution, Sentinel, Program, Advantage and Advantage Multi are all accepted flea prevention medications.

If your pet is not getting a regular flea medication we will be dispensing medication at the time of the visit.
If you have any questions about flea control products, please do not hesitate to speak to your veterinarian or veterinary technician about appropriate products.
